ABA Assessment and Therapy

Understand your child and choose meaningful goals

An ABA assessment explores your child's strengths, current skills, interests, and areas where support may help. We consider family priorities alongside observations and assessment findings.

Step 1 · Assessment

What assessment may include

Assessment may involve a caregiver interview, review of relevant records with consent, direct observation, structured skill assessment, and exploration of preferred activities. Where behaviours affect safety or participation, we examine when they occur and what the child may be communicating or accessing.

Tools and assessment activities are selected according to the child's needs. We explain the process, fees, and expected deliverables before beginning.

  • Caregiver interview
  • Record review with consent
  • Direct observation
  • Structured skill assessment
  • Preferred activities
  • Behaviour context review
Step 2 · Your plan

Your individualized plan

We discuss the findings with you and recommend measurable goals, teaching strategies, and a suitable service schedule. Goals may include requesting help or breaks, following useful directions, playing with others, completing daily routines, or participating safely in activities.

Recommendations consider the child's readiness, clinical needs, family priorities, and opportunities to practice. There is no single schedule that fits every child.

  • Requesting help or breaks
  • Following useful directions
  • Playing with others
  • Completing daily routines
  • Safe participation
  • Family-centred schedule
Step 3 · Teaching

Teaching that connects with daily life

Sessions may combine play, natural learning opportunities, and brief structured practice. We use preferred activities, clear expectations, appropriate prompts, and reinforcement, then reduce support as independence develops.

For communication goals, we can work with your child's established communication system and collaborate with the speech-language professional involved in their care, with consent.

  • Play-based learning
  • Natural learning opportunities
  • Brief structured practice
  • Prompt fading
  • Positive reinforcement
  • SLP collaboration
Step 4 · Review

Review and adjustment

We collect data on target skills and relevant behaviours, review progress, and adjust the plan when needed. We discuss ways to practice skills across people and settings. Progress varies by learner and goal.

  • Progress data collection
  • Regular plan reviews
  • Goal adjustments
  • Practice across settings
  • Family collaboration
