Toilet Training
Build a toileting routine that fits your child
Toilet training involves several skills, including recognizing a routine, entering the bathroom, managing clothing, sitting comfortably, communicating a need, and washing hands. We help families identify a starting point and develop an individualized teaching plan.
Begin with readiness and comfort
We discuss current toileting habits, previous attempts, communication, sensory preferences, and caregiver readiness. If pain, constipation, urinary concerns, or another health issue may be affecting toileting, we recommend discussing those concerns with the child's medical provider before proceeding.

A clear plan for home and sessions
A plan may include a bathroom schedule, visual steps, brief practice, reinforcement, communication support, and simple tracking of successes and accidents. Clothing and supplies are discussed with caregivers before any changes are made.
We adjust the approach based on the child's comfort and response. Accidents are handled calmly, with attention to dignity and privacy.
